One of my fondest hobbies is reading and collecting children’s books. My favorite story is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Each year I share this story with my students and we discuss how occasionally we all have a bad day. We laugh at Alexander’s eventful day and we also sympathize with him. I promote positive and do not dwell on negative. I encourage them to learn from uneventful mishaps and focus on the good things that occur in our lives. Often children’s literature teaches life lessons.
Inspirational Quote:
Eleanor Roosevelt once stated, “It is today we must create the world of the future." This quote inspires my philosophy of education. I believe that our children are our future. It’s up to each generation to help mold and influence our children of today to be educated adult citizens of tomorrow.

Kristi- I love the book you chose for this week. For many years I would do an entire unit on this book. I used a kit that was literature-based (Macmillan). My students would learn about the author and artist and do some pre-reading activities. They would write letters to Alexander and many other activites. At the end of the unit we would watch the video. Year after year the students enjoyed taking part in this. Thanks so much for bringing up some good memories.

Kristi,
I think your quote is great! That's one I don't think I've ever heard before. Very appropriate for this program! It's easy to pick the easy out and not consider the future ramifications of our actions (as a society). This quote keeps the reality in perspective. Thank you for sharing!
I submitted a comment last week but I do not see it...maybe I forgot to press the post button. This book seems that it would be nice for adults as well because it teaches us that we will have some bad days. Whic is even better for kids to learn early to prepare them for tough days to come. It is also nice that you bring the positive out of this book for your kids.
